Peace, a word that is discussed by every person today, is a
global concern, an issue that determines the very existence of our planet.
There are lots of conferences, books and articles everywhere on the subject.
When contesting for any position, in any arena of life, all the leaders promise
to bring peace and harmony among everyone. But is there any real peace yet?
Have countries disbanded their armies forever? Are border countries friendly
with each other yet? Is it easy to get quick visas especially just across the
border?
As young leaders of tomorrow, the students of Pandit
Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, have launched the One
World Project a cultural internship facilitated by AIESEC Ahmedabad.
Vasudhaiva kutumbakam is
a Sanskrit phrase that means “The whole world is one family”. Taking that as
the theme of our project, we have launched the One World project on 4th
June 2012.
We have students participating in this project from various
corners of the world such as from France, Poland, China, Ukraine, USA,
Netherlands, Colombia, Canada, Estonia, Hong Kong and Ireland.
The One World Project is a one month long cultural
internship hosted by PDPU. 20 interns from 12 different nationalities have
signed up for this exchange and have arrived on campus. In the course of their
visit, the interns will attend workshops on Yoga, meditation, photography, food
and culture, and much more! Additionally, the interns come from different
courses from back home. There will be countless interactions with all these
students and hence, the PDPU students shall obtain a huge and diverse platform
of opportunities and experience.
Right from planning, execution and delivering, “Project One
World” is the brain- child of the students, with guidance from the University.
The University has a special international relations and
exchange policy that encourages such events and activities. Further, the
University also has a School of Liberal Studies. The course provides a very liberal
platform for the students and faculty too to enhance the approach. This project
has strengthened the international appeal and furthered the delivery of the
liberal studies program which has increased the leverage for all PDPU students
including Engineering and Management.
The Global Village will be a two day event, as a part of the
One World Project. All the interns representing the countries will put up
performances and stalls showcasing their culture, food, folklore, tradition and
much more!
Living in a new country, with so many other people, mingling
into the crowd, interacting with each other will create a social bond among us
all. “One World” as the name of the project suggests that the world is one and
we must all live as global citizens.
